It is impossible to fully appreciate native California flora and fauna, including trees, without being aware of their coevolution with the indigenous communities who have stewarded them for millennia. Many of the difficulties California now faces - catastrophic fires, certain pest and disease issues, decline of native species, etc. - result directly from the longtime exclusion of indigenous people from large-scale land management decisions. We are committed to educating ourselves and others about these deficiencies and being part of the solution.
